Xiaomi's New YU7 SUV Takes Aim at Tesla Model Y with Impressive Pre-orders
Xiaomi has boldly positioned its new YU7 SUV against the Tesla Model Y, with CEO Lei Jun revealing that the company studied Tesla's components to improve its own vehicle. The YU7 launched in late June, attracting over 200,000 pre-orders in just three minutes.
Xiaomi's ambition was clear when Jun announced that the YU7's interior design matches or even surpasses that of the Tesla Model Y. The YU7 offers DC fast charging from 10 to 80% in 13 minutes, two minutes faster than the Tesla Model Y.
Tesla remains a benchmark for rivals in China, despite market share losses. Xiaomi's study of Tesla's components and BMW's 'Panoramic Vision' design philosophy is evident in the YU7's user interface and overall design. However, analysts acknowledge Tesla's lead in AI, driver-assistance technology, and production innovations.
The Xiaomi YU7, with its impressive pre-order numbers, signals a strong challenge to the Tesla stock in the Chinese market. Despite Xiaomi's ambitious claims and studies, Tesla's technological advancements and innovations continue to set the bar high for competitors.
