Winner of Apprentice unveils plans for "Excessively Wealthy at the Seashore" café concept at Mermaid Quay, managed by Schroder UK Real Estate Fund, in Cardiff Bay.
Ridiculously Rich By The Sea to Open at Mermaid Quay
Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay is set to welcome a new addition to its lineup, with the arrival of Ridiculously Rich By The Sea. This latest development is part of SREF's ongoing efforts to enhance the offering at the popular leisure destination.
The cafe, which will occupy a 2,230 sq ft venue at one of Mermaid Quay's main entrances, is the brainchild of Alana Spencer, winner of The Apprentice in 2016. Alana, who started her professional love affair with sweet treats at the age of 14 and was a self-taught chocolatier by 16, opened the first By The Sea cafe in Aberystwyth in October 2020.
By The Sea will offer a variety of food items, including Ridiculously Rich by Alana's famous range of luxury cakes, savory meals, shakes & sundaes, cookie pizzas, cookie dough, and a selection of hot and cold drinks. The cafe will operate as a takeaway with seating available for customers to use after ordering.
The arrival of Ridiculously Rich By The Sea is just one part of SREF's plans to revitalise Mermaid Quay. SREF has been enhancing the offering at Mermaid Quay, with the creation of a five-screen Everyman Cinema, the introduction of new restaurants, and aesthetic improvements to the buildings. The series of new businesses coming to Mermaid Quay this year is expected to help the centre bounce back from challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Further leisure uses and exciting new food and beverage brands are planned for Mermaid Quay. Work on the public realm revitalisation, including the creation of a stylish new landscaped public space, is anticipated to start this summer. The extension of the car park is also part of the future plans for Mermaid Quay.
SREF's Head of UK Retail, Harry Pickering, expressed confidence in the popularity of Ridiculously Rich By the Sea at Mermaid Quay, saying, "We are delighted to welcome Ridiculously Rich By The Sea to Mermaid Quay. Their unique offering and reputation for quality make them a fantastic addition to our lineup."
By The Sea will be the first of up to 10 new venues planned for 2021 in Wales, although the founder opening a new café named "By The Sea" in Mermaid Quay in May 2021 is not mentioned in the provided search results; therefore, information about the founder and the number of other planned locations in Wales in 2021 is not available.
Savills and Smith Price RRG are the letting agents for Mermaid Quay. Mermaid Quay's multi-million pound repositioning plan is being resumed, aiming to enhance its reputation as one of Wales' premier leisure destinations.
