Wildermuth Bau Closes After 119 Years, Leaving 100 Jobless
Wildermuth Bau, a long-standing construction company based in Bietigheim-Bissingen, has shut down after 119 years in business. The decision, made by the current owners, was not taken lightly and came after much consideration.
The closure, announced nearly five months ago, has affected around 100 employees. A 50-year-old employee, who wished to remain unnamed, expressed concern about his job prospects in the current labor market. Despite the company's strong reputation in high and deep construction sectors, economic struggles in the industry were cited as the reason for the shutdown.
The company is being praised for not waiting for insolvency but taking the initiative to close down earlier. However, around a third of the workforce is challenging their dismissals in court. Conciliation hearings held over the summer did not resolve the disputes. The Industrial Union of Construction, Agriculture, and Environment (IG BAU) also criticized the decision, questioning the clarity of the reasons given for the shutdown. At least 30 cases are set to be heard by the labor court from January onwards, with proceedings expected to continue until March.
The closure of Wildermuth Bau marks the end of an era for the construction industry in Bietigheim-Bissingen. While the company is being commended for its proactive approach, the impact on employees is significant, with many now facing an uncertain future in the job market.
