Wealthiest Pole: Unique Pastime Revealed
Say Hello to Poland's Billionaire Tycoon: Meet Michał Sołowow
Michał Sołowow, the wealthiest bloke in Poland, boasts a whopping 13.4 billion US dollars in his pocket according to "Forbes". This lad's a force to be reckoned with - an investor, entrepreneur, and a prominent figure in the Polish economy and politics.
The 62-year-old billionaire has stakes in numerous companies, earning the title as the largest Polish private investor abroad. But his success story didn't happen overnight.
Born in 1962 in Kielce, a city about 170 kilometers south of Warsaw, Sołowow started his career at the end of the 1980s. He founded Mitex, a construction company, and later sold it to Eiffage in 2002. With the dough he made, he plunged into the thriving Polish stock market, setting the foundation for his current empire. Soon, he became one of the heavyweights on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
Expanding his business and privatizing many of his companies followed, such as the building materials giants Barlinek and Cersanit. In 2018, he pulled his chemical conglomerate Synthos out of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, even though he remains a driving force in the Polish economy today with his role as the biggest Polish private investor abroad.
Apart from his industrial endeavors, Sołowow's interests lie in future technologies. He backed the biotech startup OncoArendi, which went public in 2018. His industrial group operates in 18 production facilities across eight countries with over 16,000 employees. Their products are sold in over 60 countries on six continents.
If the fast-paced world of business isn't thrilling enough for Sołowow, he's also an adrenaline junkie at heart. He's been a dedicated rally driver since his youth, participating in numerous European competitions and earning top placements, like being the vice-champion of the Rally European Championship in 2009 and 2012. Despite a terrifying accident in 2014 where his racing car flipped over, he walkaway unscathed and continues to stomp the pedal today.
Married with a beautiful daughter, Karolina Sołowow, he's also dedicated to supporting disadvantaged youth. Karolina heads the "Fabryki Marzeń" foundation (Factories of Dreams), based in Kielce, his hometown which remains a centerpiece in his life.
