Water service providers have been granted a month to settle their outstanding payments for utility bills
Your Water Bill Woes: All You Need to Know
Staying on top of your water bill can be a hassle, but it's essential for preventing unexpected costs.
Many residents pay their water bills based on meter readings, which offers significant savings on utility expenses compared to the usual rates. However, neglecting the device's maintenance could lead to steep penalties. Not everyone remembers to regularly check their water meter for issues or malfunctions, ignoring its importance.
If the seal on the water meter breaks, signs of tampering are evident, or the interval for verification has passed, the meter will be deemed faulty. According to Russian Government Decree No. 354, issued on May 6, 2011, in such cases, water bills will be calculated based on the standard rate with a multiplier of "10."
We advise never tampering with the seals on your meters yourself. If any malfunctions arise, immediately report the issue to your water company and provide recent meter readings. The problem should be resolved within a month, and during this period, water consumption will be calculated based on the average daily consumption over the past six months.
If you need to remove a faulty meter, inform your water company at least two days in advance. According to regulations, a specialist from the water company must be present for the removal and installation of a new meter. If they fail to arrive, it will not be considered a violation. Once a new meter is installed, it must be sealed by the water company – this service is free.
