Wandsworth Council Raises Rents 7% to Fund Services, Fight Homelessness
Wandsworth Council has announced a 7% increase in council housing rents, effective from 3 April 2023. The move aims to help meet costs and fund better services for tenants, including repairs and new estate managers. The rent increase, amounting to an average weekly rise of £8.03, is below the current inflation rate of 9.2%.
The rent increase will also facilitate the delivery of new housing and help tackle homelessness in the London Borough of Wandsworth. However, the decision has been criticized by the opposition, who argue that it puts additional financial pressure on residents. It is worth noting that social security benefits, including working age benefits and the State Pension, will rise in line with inflation from April 2023.
The 7% increase in council housing rents in Wandsworth will take effect from 3 April 2023, aiming to improve services and combat homelessness. Despite the opposition's concerns, the increase is below the current inflation rate.
