Minimum Wage in Deutschland to Ascend to 14.60 Euros by 2027

Wage increase set for €14.60 by 2027

In a unanimous decision announced in Berlin last Friday, the Minimum Wage Commission in Deutschland has proposed a two-step increase for the minimum wage, aiming to elevate it from its current €12.82 per hour to €14.60 per hour by January 1, 2027 [1][3][4]. First, the wage floor will jump to €13.90 at the beginning of 2026. Christiane Schoenefeld, the chairperson, praised the decision as a viable solution [2].

Initially, the SPD had hoped for a €15 minimum wage by 2026. However, the Commission's more moderate recommendation reflects economic challenges such as stagnation and uncertain forecasts [2]. On the federal level, all workers aged 18 and over, including part-time, full-time, foreign, seasonal, and marginally employed workers, are covered by the new wage [1].

The federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Barbara Bas (SPD), will implement the minimum wage increases through a statutory ordinance. Moreover, the federal government is unable to reverse this decision [5]. (News by Holger Hansen, edited by Hans Busemann).

The community policy and employment policy discussions in Germany have been impacted by the announcement of a two-step increase in minimum wage, which will reach €14.60 per hour by 2027. This decision, confirmed by the Minimum Wage Commission, could influence future finance, business, politics, and general-news discussions related to the economic conditions and job market in the country.
