Vehicles like the Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq, Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun, and Virtus are being recalled once more due to defective seatbelts.

In a recent development, Skoda and Volkswagen have announced recalls for certain models in India and global markets due to safety issues related to the seatbelt assembly and parts.

The affected models in India include the Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia, as well as the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. These vehicles were manufactured between December 1, 2021, and May 31, 2025. In total, the recall covers 1,821 units: 860 Skoda cars and 961 Volkswagen cars.

The defects identified in these models are cracks in the metal base frame of the rear seatbelt assembly in 860 Skoda cars, and incorrect parts installed in the front and rear seatbelt systems across all affected models. These issues could potentially compromise occupant safety in seatbelt operation.

It is important to note that this recall extends the earlier large recall in April 2022, which involved 47,235 units of the same models, addressing breakage risk in the rear seatbelt buckle latch plate during frontal collisions. However, the current recall focuses more on cracks in the metal base frame and incorrect part installation, without reported incidents or injuries so far.

Regarding the replacement process, both Skoda and Volkswagen have stated they will contact affected vehicle owners to inspect and replace the defective seatbelt components free of charge. Owners are also advised to reach out to authorised service centres or check official websites for updates.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen has also launched full imports - Tiguan R Line and Golf GTI - in its stable. However, these models are not affected by the recall. The recall affects global markets for certain Volkswagen models, but not all vehicles in the brand's stable.

Owners should prioritize scheduling service appointments promptly once contacted to ensure their vehicle’s seatbelt system is safe and compliant. No injuries have been reported related to this issue yet.

For more information, owners can check their vehicle’s status on the Skoda and Volkswagen India recall websites using the car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The recall involving Skoda and Volkswagen models affects not only the Indian market but also global finance for the automotive industry, as 1,821 units are to be inspected and repaired due to safety issues with seatbelts. The affected vehicles include Skoda's Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia, as well as Volkswagen's Taigun and Virtus, with potential cracks in the metal base frame and incorrect part installations potentially compromising occupant safety.
