Little-known, yet essential for many retirees. A significant number of low-income retirees in France are unaware that they may qualify for an aid exceeding 1,000 euros. According to CNews, the ASPA (or long-standing pension, as it was once known) offers monthly assistance to those with limited resources. By 2025, its maximum amount will hit 1,034.28 euros per month. Introduced in 2006 by the Cnav or MSA, this allowance aims to offer a minimum income for seniors living in France who fail to receive a sufficient pension.
The amount of aid depends on a beneficiary's income. Starting January 1, 2025, applicants can earn up to a maximum of 12,411.36 euros annually or 1,034.28 euros per month (as a single person). For couples, the limit is 19,268.76 euros annually, or 1,605.73 euros per month.

50% of eligible individuals do not claim it
According to the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), around half of all retirees eligible for ASPA in 2016 remained unclaimed in 2022[1]. To qualify for ASPA, beneficiaries must meet specific criteria beyond income. These include living in France for at least nine months per year and being retired or still in gainful employment beyond the statutory retirement age. disablement or permanent disability of 50% or more, allowing access to ASPA from the age of 62.
Process to claim ASPA involves requesting the allowance either from your primary retirement fund or local social welfare center. Unlike some benefits, ASPA isn't automatically paid out.
