Unveiling at Munich: Unique JCW Collaborations by MINI and Deus Ex Machina

MINI and Deus Ex Machina Unveil Stunning Electric Concept Cars at IAA Mobility Show

In a dazzling display of automotive innovation and collaboration, MINI and lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina have unveiled two one-of-a-kind John Cooper Works concept cars at the 2025 IAA Mobility Show in Munich. The electric "Skeg" and the petrol "Machina" are a testament to the shared DIY spirit and the fusion of MINI's motorsport heritage with Deus' surf and motorcycle culture.

The Skeg, based on the electric JCW (J01) model, carries the MINI's John Cooper Works badge and is designed to turn heads. Its exterior features semi-transparent fiberglass panels, wide fenders, a big roof spoiler, and a rear "surfboard" spoiler, making it more suited for the beach than the boulevard. The Skeg's unique design reflects Deus Ex Machina's signature raw design aesthetic.

On the other hand, the Machina, based on the petrol F66 JCW model, is a nod to racing culture. Its exterior boasts quad lamps up front, a red-white-black livery, and a massive roof wing, giving it a race car vibe. The interior is bare metal, with a roll cage and a hydraulic handbrake, further emphasizing its racing pedigree.

The Skeg and the Machina share a giant "X" across their roofs to mark their collaboration. This partnership between MINI and Deus Ex Machina is not a new venture. In the 1960s, the MINI Cooper S had notable wins at the Monte Carlo rally, including a 1-2-3 finish in 1966. The partnership continued with a livery for Bulldog Racing's Nürburgring entry, further cementing their bond.

While the Skeg and the Machina are undoubtedly the stars of MINI's Pavilion in central Munich before the IAA Mobility show, BMW's unveiling of the production Neue Klasse iX3 is expected to dominate headlines. However, the Skeg and the Machina serve as a reminder of MINI's commitment to innovation and its willingness to push boundaries, both on the racetrack and in the world of concept cars.

The Aceman SE and Countryman SE ALL4 will also be showcased by MINI as part of its growing electric lineup at IAA. The Skeg and the Machina, with their unique designs and powerful performances, are a promising glimpse into the future of MINI's electric offerings.

In the Skeg's interior, neoprene seats, trays for wetsuits, and a dash resembling a surfboard add to its beach-ready appeal. The Skeg makes 231 horsepower, ensuring it's more than just a pretty face. The Machina, while closer to a race car in design, also packs a punch with its power output.

The Skeg and the Machina are more than just concept cars; they are a celebration of MINI's rich motorsport history and Deus Ex Machina's surf and motorcycle culture. They are a unique vehicle, designed to challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of what a MINI can be. Whether it's on the racetrack or the beach, the Skeg and the Machina are sure to turn heads and leave a lasting impression.
