In South Africa, lawyers receive promotions to director instead of partner. Paul Cartwright was promoted to litigation and disputes in Johannesburg.
Gerry Pecht, the Global Chief Executive of the law firm, congratulated the promoted lawyers for their industry knowledge, business acumen, and innovative solutions. He also commended their contributions to the firm's ongoing efforts to promote gender diversity, with 23 of the 54 promoted lawyers being women, representing 43 percent of the total promotions.
The firm's ongoing gender diversity target is 40 percent women in leadership roles, lawyer promotions, lateral additions, and senior business services hires. This goal underscores the firm's commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment.
While global data specifically on gender diversity in legal partnerships for the year 2022 is not directly available, women remain significantly underrepresented in senior roles, including partnership positions, in law firms worldwide. Efforts to address these disparities involve transparency in promotion, flexible work policies, and mentoring programs.
The promotions announced by the law firm are a testament to the firm's commitment to nurturing talent and driving innovation across its global operations. The diverse range of practice areas and locations represented in the promotions underscores the firm's strategic focus on delivering excellence to clients around the world.
