Dollar to Naira Exchange Rate in Lagos's Black Market on August 19th, 2025
In Lagos, Nigeria, on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, the exchange rate for the US Dollar in the black market was approximately ₦1,535 for buying and ₦1,550 for selling.
According to reports, the buying rate was ₦1,535 and the selling rate was ₦1,550 per dollar. These rates were slightly lower than the rates reported a week later, on 27th August 2025, where the buying rate was ₦1,540 and the selling rate remained at ₦1,550.
The official exchange rates, as recognised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), are usually lower. On that date, the official rate was around ₦1,532.89. The higher rates in the black market are often due to supply-demand factors and market regulation differences.
It is important to note that the CBN does not recognise the parallel market, and individuals who wish to engage in Forex are directed to approach their respective banks. The rates provided in this article are from sources at Bureau De Change (BDC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). However, it is worth mentioning that the exchange rates for buying or selling forex may vary from what is captured here.
For those interested, the lowest CBN rate for a dollar on that day was ₦1534, while the highest rate was ₦1535. The black market in Lagos bought a dollar for ₦1555 and sold at ₦1550 on the same day.
