Udokan Copper Cuts Road Hazards 37% With AI-Powered Driver Safety System
Udokan Copper, a prominent Russian mining company, has notably enhanced road safety by integrating an innovative Automated Monitoring System (AMS) developed by Astra Linux. The system, employing 'smart' video recorders and AI-based technology, has resulted in a 37% reduction in hazardous driving situations.
The AMS, incorporating Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), and Motion Vector (MV) technologies, is installed in over 100 Udokan Copper vehicles. It continually assesses driver behavior and external road conditions in real-time, flagging perilous activities such as drowsiness, phone use, smoking, distractions, and seat belt non-use.
Upon detecting a dangerous behavior, the system alerts both the driver with an audible signal and the company's dispatcher via GSM channel. This swift intervention and corrective action have been praised by General Director Alexei Yashchuk, contributing to a 37% reduction in accident risk.
To ensure the system's success, Udokan Copper has equipped high-risk transport with specialized 'smart' video recorders and provided relevant personnel with comprehensive training on the new software. Starting in 2026, the AMS will be installed on all new heavy trucks, dump trucks, and Gazelle passenger vehicles joining the company's fleet.
With over 700 units of equipment in its fleet, Udokan Copper's dedication to road safety is commendable. By adopting advanced technology and thorough training, the company has not only reduced dangerous road situations by 37% but also set a precedent for enhanced safety measures in the industry.
