Two fresh appointments mark the Geneva Association
The Geneva Association Expands Board and Embraces Uncertainty
The Geneva Association, a renowned non-profit organisation dedicated to the study of insurance economics, recently held its 52nd General Assembly in New York City. The event, themed "Insurance Strategies for a Changing and Uncertain World," saw the election of four new members to its Board of Directors and the appointment of two distinguished industry leaders.
The newly elected members include Lard Friese, CEO of Aegon; Xi LUO, Chairman of People's Insurance Company of China; Hiroshi Shimizu, President & CEO of Nippon Life; and Peter Zaffino, Chairman & CEO of AIG. Joining them are Andreas Berger, Group CEO of Swiss Re, and Andrew F. Sullivan, CEO of Prudential Financial, who were appointed to the Board.
The Geneva Association, also known as the International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics, is a global association of insurance and reinsurance CEOs. Its members' companies are headquartered in 26 countries around the world, collectively managing assets totaling USD 21 trillion.
The organisation's key focus areas typically include insurance economics, regulatory issues, and research and education. By studying the economic aspects of insurance, including risk management and financial stability, the Geneva Association aims to promote understanding and foster innovation in the insurance industry.
In line with its mission, the Geneva Association recently released a new research report titled "Insurance in a Fragmented World Economy." This report explores the implications of reduced globalisation, or 'slowbalisation,' for re/insurers.
The event also marked the Geneva Association's joining the UN Sustainable Insurance Initiative. This partnership underscores the organisation's commitment to addressing sustainability challenges and promoting responsible insurance practices.
In addition, Anne Fortin, Executive Vice President of Intact Financial Corporation (IFC), was awarded the 2022 Geneva Association Women in Insurance Award. This recognition honours women who have made significant contributions to the insurance industry.
The General Assembly also explored how insurers can navigate global disruption and meet challenges such as a shifting world order, extreme weather events, and ageing societies.
Lastly, Jad Ariss' two-year mandate as Managing Director of the Geneva Association was renewed at the event, signalling his continued leadership in guiding the organisation through a rapidly changing world.
