Tunnel at Kiesberg to undergo closure for two consecutive nights
The state-owned company Straßen.NRW is currently undertaking a crucial construction project on the L70 road, focusing on the repair of a tunnel that serves as a vital connection between Elberfeld City and the Sonnborner interchange.
The repair work is being carried out primarily during nighttime hours to minimize disruption to daytime traffic. This approach allows for efficient completion of critical repairs while keeping the tunnel open and functional during peak times.
The tunnel under repair is the upper tube leading towards Düsseldorf, and it is part of a two-tube system. The other tube connects to Elberfeld's Neviandtstraße and is 955 meters long, while the tube under repair is 855 meters long.
To help navigate the construction area, Straßen.NRW has assured that detours will be clearly marked to ensure a smooth journey for motorists.
The construction project aims to maintain the safety and efficiency of the tunnel, ensuring a reliable connection between Elberfeld City and the Sonnborner interchange. The exact completion date may depend on the scope of repair needed and weather conditions affecting the work pace.
For the most precise and up-to-date information on the status of the project or any changes to the schedule, it is advisable to consult the latest announcements from Straßen.NRW or the local traffic authorities managing the L70 corridor.
It is worth noting that the construction project is not a new development, as the tunnel was built in the 1970s at a cost of approximately 50 million German Marks.
As always, we encourage drivers to exercise caution and patience when navigating construction zones, and to follow all traffic signs and instructions provided by road authorities for their safety and the safety of others.
