TUI cruise ships in Hamburg's port receive land-based power from HPA.

In a significant stride towards climate change mitigation, TUI Cruises and the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) have signed a long-term cooperation agreement for the supply of cruise ships with shore power. This agreement marks a milestone in the Hamburg harbour, as the first TUI cruise ship to be supplied with shore power, the Mein Schiff 4, arrived at the Hamburg-Altona cruise terminal in mid-May.

The Mein Schiff 3 followed suit in 2023, further cementing Hamburg's commitment to sustainable cruising. Under this agreement, ships of both the TUI Cruises brand, such as the Mein Schiff series, and ships of the Hapag-Lloyd Cruises brand will be powered by land-based electricity during their stay in the Hamburg harbour.

This shore power supply in the Hamburg harbour is a European model, as stated by Hamburg's Minister of Economy, Dr. Melanie Leonhard. The initiative significantly advances efforts to reduce the impact of climate change, aligning with TUI Cruises' climate protection goals.

The German Federal Government has shown its support for this initiative, providing Hamburg with 42 million Euros to facilitate the shore power supply. The cooperation between TUI Cruises and the HPA aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2019.

Hamburg's cruise industry recorded a record season in 2022, and the shore power supply is expected to further boost its appeal as a logistics hub and a real-lab for innovations. The HPA website (https://www.hamburg-port-authority.de/) provides more information about the port's operations and initiatives.

The shore power supply in the Hamburg harbour brings TUI Cruises one step closer to its climate protection goals, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for the cruise industry.
