TSMC Establishes Technological Research Facility in Munich

The foremost semiconductor contract manufacturer globally, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), is constructing a development center in Munich. Reportedly, this facility is slated to commence operations in the third quarter of 2025, as announced by TSMC's Europe chief, Paul de Bot.

The center's primary objective is to facilitate the development of high-performance semiconductors for European clients, particularly in the automotive, industrial, artificial intelligence, and connected devices sectors (IoT).

TSMC, a Taiwan-based company, is currently in the process of building a factory in collaboration with Infineon, NXP, and Bosch in Dresden.

The development center in Munich is expected to focus on various key areas:

  1. Automotive Applications: The center will concentrate on the development of microcontrollers for the automotive industry, utilizing cutting-edge technologies like Resistive Random Access Memory (RRAM).
  2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC): The center will contribute to the design of advanced processors for AI and HPC applications, using leading-edge production nodes.
  3. Industrial Applications: In addition to AI and automotive, the center will also focus on industrial applications, aligning with TSMC's broader strategy to strengthen technological capabilities in Europe.

The center's focus on these sectors underscores TSMC's dedication to fostering European innovation in critical technology domains.
