Köpenick's sole tram link to the broader city has been halted for several days. However, there's some positive development. Commuters will eventually get some relief, but motorists will need more patience.

Trams resume operation for the first time.

In Berlin, the long-awaited resumption of tram service on the Wuhlheide line has commenced. The Berlin Transport Authority (BVG) confirmed that since early morning, the first trams have resumed their journey, with the restart proceeding smoothly.

Initially, a shuttle service for Line M17 will be operational, connecting Blockdammweg and S-Bahnhof Schöneweide every 10 minutes. Meanwhile, detours for other tram lines remain in effect. The BVG also announced that bus replacement services have been terminated, and by Saturday, all lines in the area will operate as usual.

Before the morning commute, experts inspected the tracks, rebuilt, and reconnected the overhead wires, as per the BVG's statement.

Pedestrians and cyclists can now resume journeying along Treskowallee via Edisonstraße, but note that there is still no traffic light at the intersection. Traffic wardens are currently managing tram, pedestrian, and cyclist traffic, as well as providing passage for emergency vehicles, police, and fire services, albeit in the direction of Treskowallee/Edisonstraße.

Motorists, however, will have to exercise patience. The BVG expects initial relief for car traffic to materialize by June 6, 2025, contingent on construction progress and current weather conditions. So far, six of the nine construction fields have been cleared, with the entire construction site for the bridge demolition scheduled to be completed by no later than June 27.

The expected completion of the construction site and the reopening of car traffic on Treskowallee is targeted for around June 6, 2025, contingent on final construction and weather factors. The construction site, including track checks, overhead line reconnections, and other work, is set to complete its major disruptions by early June 2025, with regular tram operations resumed and pedestrian and bicycle traffic also reopened as of late May 2025.

The Berlin Transport Authority (BVG) plans to extend transport services by resuming finance-intensive construction work on Treskowallee, hoping to restore normal traffic conditions for motorists by June 6, 2025. Meanwhile, the public-transit shuttle service for Line M17 will continue until then, offering a temporary transportation solution for commuters.
