Train no longer uses Needle-Ohr connection between Nuremberg and Bamberg
The expanded section of the ICE (InterCity Express) route between Nuremberg and Berlin, approximately 60 kilometers long, is now open for service. This extended route, which is a significant part of the ongoing transport project Deutsche Einheit No. 8, is managed by Deutsche Bahn (DB).
Trains have been running on the extended route since September 9, providing a more stable rail operation, particularly for regional and S-Bahn traffic in Franconia. The expansion benefits both long-distance and regional traffic, making travel between these major cities more efficient.
The four-track expansion of the route, which is located between Nuremberg and Bamberg, was successfully completed by DB InfraGO. This expansion is a crucial part of the transport project Deutsche Einheit Nr. 8.1.
The extended ICE route is an essential part of the larger project to expand the ICE route from Nuremberg to Berlin, a project that has been in the works for several decades. The construction work on the expanded route from Nuremberg via Erfurt and Leipzig to Berlin has been ongoing for many years.
The news is welcome for rail travelers using the ICE route between Munich and Berlin. The expansion of this route is a major project that has taken years to complete, but the benefits for passengers are clear. With four lanes instead of two, the expanded route is less prone to disruptions, ensuring a smoother and more reliable journey for all.
The next step in North Bavaria is the expansion of the railway in Bamberg, which is also part of the Deutsche Einheit No. 8 project. This ongoing project promises to further improve rail travel in the region, making it an exciting time for those who rely on the rail network.
