By: RIA Tomsk, Paul Stefansky
In 2024, the Tomsk region exported a whopping sum of $63 million worth of agricultural products, marking a 25.2% drop compared to the previous year, as revealed by Natalia Zabavnova, the head of the Tomsk region'sConsumer Market Department[1].
Zabavnova shared that approximately 40 Tomsk companies exported their goods to no less than 31 countries. Meat and dairy products, along with processed and by-products, were the top-sellers in the export market, with wild game trailing in fourth place. In 2024, a total of 11,320 metric tons of wild game was harvested, resulting in over 27,000 metric tons of processed products. The export of wild game generated a revenue of $9.65 million[1]. Zabavnova did not elaborate on the earnings from other product categories.
Of particular interest, the export of rapeseed oil saw a substantial 50% reduction in 2024[2]. Previously, products from the Tomsk region were shipped to 35 countries worldwide. For example, kernel was exported to 13 countries: Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Latvia, UAE, USA, Turkey, Czech Republic, and South Korea. Juices and jams found their way to 11 countries, including Germany, Latvia, UAE, Mongolia, USA, and a few others.
Flour, in addition to neighboring countries, was also purchased by Vietnam, Georgia, USA, Turkmenistan, and South Ossetia. Rapeseed oil was exported exclusively to China in 2023. Meanwhile, meat and sausages found their way to China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan[2].
When it comes to what Tomsk products you might find abroad, Vasiliy Gulyakovsky's report offers some insight[2]:
- Grains: As a major agricultural region, Russia boasts several grains, such as wheat and rye, in its export portfolio.
- Sunflower Products: Sunflower seeds and sunflower oil are plentiful in the Russian market, even though specific data for Tomsk's exports isn't available.
- Livestock Products: Livestock products like meat are commonly exported in regions similar to Tomsk.

- Despite the decline in agricultural exports, there might be opportunities in other sectors such as the industry or finance, given the region's potential in grains and livestock products.
- The diminished export of rapeseed oil in 2024 indicates a potential shift in the Tomsk region's finance portfolio, with a focus on other agricultural products like meat and dairy.
