Toll Road Repairs to Go Toll-Free

Starting today, May 28, 2025, the Ministry of Transport has announced that repairs on toll road sections causing safety concerns will be toll-free until fixes are implemented. If, for instance, a toll road section of 100 km is affected by a 5 km defect, drivers will be charged only for the 95 km unaffected stretch.

This decision follows an official statement published today on the Ministry's Telegram channel. The move aims to ensure road safety without hindering travelers unnecessarily.

In a related development, Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, had earlier stated in February 2025 that Kazakhstan boasts the cheapest road tolls among its neighboring countries.

Last year, out of a total of 48 billion tenge collected from toll roads, a substantial portion was allocated toward social needs, according to recent reports. However, the specific figure devoted to this purpose was not disclosed. More details about a toll-free road in the country that took effect May 24 can be found here.

I, as a citizen, welcome the toll-free repairs on certain sections of the industry's transportation infrastructure, which the Ministry of Finance has announced will not affect the public-transit budget. This decision could potentially lead to Kazakhstan's transport sector maintaining its competitive edge in finance among neighboring countries.
