Tinubu selects board officials for the NCC and USPF organizations
President Tinubu Constitutes Boards of NCC and USPF
In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has recently constituted the boards of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF). The appointments aim to strengthen the agencies' roles in facilitating the achievement of national policy goals for universal access and service to information and communication technologies (ICTs) in Nigeria.
The NCC, under the leadership of Dr Aminu Maida as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, will be guided by a revamped board. Hajia Maryam Bayi, formerly serving as Director, Human Capital & Administration, has been appointed as a member of the NCC board. Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd) has also joined the NCC board. Additionally, Sen. Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, and Oforitsenere Emiko have been appointed as members of the NCC board, with Emiko serving as Secretary of the Board.
The USPF, established by the Federal Government to promote ICTs in rural, unserved, and underserved areas, will be steered by a new board as well. Dr Bosun Tijani, who was appointed as Chairman of the USPF by the Nigerian government, will lead the board. He is joined by Gafar Quadri, who serves as the Secretary of the USPF Board, and Aliyu Edogi Aliyu, who represents the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) on the USPF Board.
Other members of the USPF Board include Peter Bankole, Rimini Makama, Abayomi Okanlawon, Uzoma Dozie, and Joseph Faluyi, who represents the Federal Ministry of Finance. Idris Olorunnimbe, previously serving on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, has been appointed as Chairman of the USPF. Abraham Oshidami, who was appointed as Executive Commissioner, Technical Services of the NCC, is also a member of the USPF Board. Rimini Makama, who was appointed as Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management of the NCC, is another member of the USPF Board.
The appointments come as part of the government's commitment to improving ICT infrastructure and services across Nigeria. Both agencies, under the supervision of the FMCIDE, will play crucial roles in achieving this goal. The President's approval of the Board of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) further underscores this commitment. The new boards are expected to hit the ground running and make a significant impact in the digital landscape of Nigeria.
