THW Boosts Civil Protection with Modern Barracks: First 60 New Buildings Awarded
The THW (Technisches Hilfswerk), Germany's federal agency for civil protection, is strengthening its capabilities with modern barracks. The first framework contract for up to 60 new news buildings has been awarded to Goldbeck. The project kicked off in Wardenburg, Lower Saxony, on May 26, 2025.
The BImA (Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben), the federal government's central real estate company, owns and manages these new accommodations. The THW building program aims to renew at least 30 local associations' accommodations, addressing issues like lack of space, outdated facilities, and insufficient energy efficiency. The new building in Wardenburg, with approximately 590 square meters of usable area and a 700-square-meter hall, will house around 130 volunteers and various THW units.
The new barracks will provide functional, well-equipped spaces for material and deployment forces, signaling appreciation for volunteers' willingness to help. They will also offer more space for training and exercises, accommodate larger THW vehicles, and incorporate energy-efficient technologies like integrated heat pumps and photovoltaic systems.
Goldbeck, the construction and service company, won the tender for the first framework contract, which could see up to 60 new THW barracks built by the end of 2027. The THW, with approximately 88,000 volunteers nationwide, will benefit from these modern accommodations, enhancing its civil protection news capabilities both domestically and internationally.
