Thorough investigation conducted in the city, examining the transportation habits of 5000 households
Bergisch Gladbach is conducting a mobility survey, commissioned by the city itself to the engineering firm Helmert from Aachen. The survey aims to provide new insights into the mobility behavior of people in Bergisch Gladbach, with a focus on promoting environmentally friendly means of transport such as walking, cycling, and public transport.
The survey, set to be sent to 5,000 randomly selected households in mid-September, will collect data that will form an important basis for future traffic planning. This data, last collected in 2014, will be used to determine the Modal Split – the distribution of all routes of the population to the different means of transport.
The Modal Split provides valuable information about the real existing traffic composition, including pedestrian and cyclist shares. The traffic flows in the city area can be derived and represented in connection with the chosen means of transport without revealing individual personal information.
The importance of the Modal Split lies in the conclusions that can be drawn about the sustainability of the traffic system. The survey results will not only guide future traffic planning but also serve as a basis for other traffic-related planning decisions.
Participants can complete the questionnaire digitally, on paper, or through a telephone interview. The company Helmert will evaluate and present the results of the survey, and the data obtained will be anonymized before further processing.
