Tesla Introduces Model Y in India: A Game-Changing Electric SUV

Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its electric Midsize SUV, the Tesla Model Y. The Model Y is now available in two variants: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (LR RWD), priced between ₹59.89 lakh and ₹73.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

Key Features and Specifications

The Model Y offers a range of 500 km (RWD) to 622 km (Long Range) on the WLTP cycle, powered by 295 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. It is equipped with an 83kWh battery for the Long Range variant and around 63kWh for the RWD variant. The LR RWD variant can achieve up to 267 kilometres of range through supercharging within 15 minutes.

The Model Y boasts a fast charging capability with a CCS-II port, offering up to 250 kW for the Long Range and 175 kW for the RWD variant. It also features advanced safety features such as 7 airbags, ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance System), and a 360-degree camera.

In terms of technology, the Model Y is managed by second-generation hardware, offering features like Tesla Theatre to watch Netflix and YouTube on the main display, Tesla Toybox (fun apps like light shows and novelty sounds), rear touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, advanced internet features, and Sentry Mode for surveillance while parked.

The Model Y has a length of 4790 mm, a width of 2129 mm, and a wheelbase of 2890 mm.

Tesla Experience Centres in India

Tesla has opened its first supercharger station at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, which also serves as a service and sales outlet for Model Y customers. As of August 11, 2025, Tesla has opened its second outlet (Experience Centre) in New Delhi, offering potential customers a chance to experience the Model Y firsthand.

Deliveries prioritize Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Pune initially, indicating logistical and sales focus in these metro regions.

Colour Options and Interior

The Model Y is available in six colour options, with Stealth Grey being the only one offered at no additional charge. The interior of the Model Y features a five-seat configuration and offers white and black theme options.

Deliveries and Expected Timeline

Deliveries of the Tesla Model Y are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025. Customers can opt for Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, which adds an additional cost of Rs 6 lakhs over the base prices. The Model Y is the only model available in India at present.
