Tannenmühlkreisel's commercial test pushed back to 2026
Tannenmühle Roundabout Traffic Trial: What's the Lowdown?
The ongoing traffic trial at the Tannenmühle roundabout on the B 45 won't wrap up until March 2026. The project involves Offenbach district, Hessen Mobil, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, and other partners. They're keeping things moving based on the positive impact from traffic management tweaks introduced late last year.
Smooth Sailing and No Accidents
Life's been good for drivers since the traffic flow updates. They've widened some entry and exit lanes, added entry and exit lanes like you see on highways, and fine-tuned the lane markings. That's resulted in a noticeable improvement at the roundabout. Cops haven't had to step in since December, even when there's heavy traffic or traffic snarls on the nearby A3.
traffics jams on critical roads like the B 448 from Obertshausen and the L 3416 towards Hainburg have dwindled significantly. The Offenbach Traffic Association attested that there've been no holdups in public transport since then.
Accident Testimonials
Reducing accidents was another top priority for this trial. Luckily, since the roundabout's new traffic management, not a single accident has been reported in the area. Previously, the L 3416 merging was considered accident-prone. The evaluation will show whether this trend continues.
Thumbs Up from Commuters
Feedback from the public? Pretty much all positive, according to Hessen Mobil. Complaints have almost vanished, and they've received letters of praise. The planners are taking this positive feedback as a sign of increased acceptance for the new traffic management.
Pragmatic Implementation
The trial benefits from practical changes made without required extensive approval processes. These measures aim to find quick and effective solutions for the busy intersection of the B 45, B 448, and L 3416, which are crucial for commuter traffic.
Thorough Analysis until Spring 2026
What about the long haul? The trial will be closely monitored under various seasonal conditions until spring 2026. The hope is that the positive effects—especially in terms of accident prevention and traffic flow—will hold up and lead to a permanent redesign of the roundabout.

It appears that the positive changes in traffic management at the Tannenmühle roundabout have also impacted other industries, especially finance and transportation. With fewer traffic jams along critical roads like the B 448 from Obertshausen and the L 3416 towards Hainburg, businesses and commuters in these areas may experience increased efficiency. Additionally, the reduction in accidents at the roundabout could lead to lower insurance costs for transportation companies, a welcome development in their financial sector.
