Taiwan Trade Expo commences in the Philippines, forecasting US$50 million in commercial agreements
The Taiwan Expo, a three-day event organized by the government-sponsored Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has officially opened in the Philippines. The expo, which is supported by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the International Trade Administration, aims to establish a comprehensive and lasting partnership between the two countries.
The expo, themed around "Green and Sustainability," "Agritech and Aquatech," "Health and Wellness," "Smart Technology" and "Intelligent Lifestyle," showcases the latest Taiwanese technologies and solutions in various sectors. More than 140 Taiwanese enterprises are participating in the event, demonstrating the growing economic ties between Taipei and Manila.
In the Agritech and Aquatech pavilion, a comprehensive technology chain is showcased, focusing on applications such as the Internet of Things and AI. This sector is expected to help enhance the resilience and sustainability of the Philippine agricultural and fishery industries, as stated by TAITRA.
Meanwhile, the Health and Wellness pavilion promotes wider access to healthcare through international referrals, specialty health services, high-end health checks, AI diagnosis, long-distance health monitoring, information and communications, and big data. These features aim to create a win-win situation, as expressed by Representative Wallace Chow.
The Philippine government, under Chow's leadership, is focusing on telecom infrastructure development, green energy, agricultural product processing, and industrial zones. The government's efforts are being made in conjunction with Taiwan's development of information and communications expertise, green technologies, and smart manufacturing.
Last year, Taiwan was the Philippines' 11th largest trading partner with bilateral trade totaling US$6.71 billion. In the first seven months of this year, bilateral trade rose 8.5 percent from a year earlier, making Taiwan the Philippines' 10th largest trading partner. The trade fair is expected to generate US$50 million in business opportunities.
TAITRA chairman James Huang led the opening ceremony, and Wilson Tecson, a board member of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, was also present. Huang stated that the international trade landscape has significantly changed since the last Taiwan Expo in 2019. He also noted that the Philippine government and business sector have been focusing more closely on Taiwanese technologies and solutions.
The event began with displays of freestyle basketball and Taiwanese street dancing, symbolizing cooperation between Taiwan and the Philippines. These performances set the tone for the expo, which is expected to strengthen economic ties between the two countries and provide valuable business opportunities for the participating companies.
