## Current Challenges

Many EV brands, including Nissan and BMW, have struggled to confirm whether their nickel supply comes from biodiversity hotspots like Raja Ampat. Nissan is still investigating the matter, while BMW relies on battery cell manufacturers to comply with environmental standards. Companies like BYD, Tesla, and Hyundai have not responded to inquiries about potential nickel supply chain links to Raja Ampat.

BMW has a concrete commitment to anti-deforestation and works with organisations like the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) and Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) to develop responsible nickel supply chains.
