Sudden Stalling of Alfa Romeos Leads to Five Serious Accidents During Driving
Alfa Romeo Announces Two Recalls Affecting Giulia and Stelvio Models
Alfa Romeo has recently announced two recalls affecting their Giulia sedans and Stelvio SUVs manufactured between September 2016 and June 2019 in the USA and Canada.
The first recall is due to a faulty fuel delivery module in certain models. This issue can potentially lead to engine stalling, posing a crash risk. Alfa Romeo has confirmed 437 complaints, five crashes, and three injuries related to the faulty fuel pump. The heat vulnerability of the faulty fuel delivery module's internal parts can cause the fuel flow rate to drop, potentially leading to engine stall. Unfortunately, affected drivers won't receive any prior warning before the fuel pump fails.
As of now, the first recall is still without a finalized repair for the faulty fuel pump. Affected drivers remain uncertain about when their cars will actually be fixed. The recall affects nearly 54,000 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedans and Stelvio SUVs across the United States and Canada.
In a separate recall, Alfa Romeo has issued a second, unrelated recall this week. This recall affects a total of 1,761 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models assembled between May 21, 2018, and June 26, 2018. The affected Ram models are not related to the previous recall affecting Alfa Romeo Giulia sedans and Stelvio SUVs.
The second recall is related to curtain airbag inflators that could rupture without warning. If the curtain airbag inflator ruptures, it could potentially spray material into the vehicle. A fix has been developed for the second recall, and dealers have been instructed to replace one or both curtain airbags as required. Owner notifications for the second recall are scheduled to begin on October 9.
The affected Giulia models are from model years 2017 to 2019, manufactured between September 2, 2016 and June 26, 2019. The affected Stelvio SUVs are from the 2018 and 2019 model years, built between April 12, 2017 and June 26, 2019. After June 26, 2019, Alfa Romeo discontinued use of the defective parts.
It is recommended that affected owners contact their local Alfa Romeo dealership or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information about the recalls and to schedule repairs.
