Solarworld Brand Changes Hands Again, Acquired by Genesis Energy
The Solarworld brand has changed hands again. After Meyer Burger's German subsidiaries went into insolvency, Novotrade, now known as Genesis Energy, acquired the Solarworld brand in 2022. This move aims to expand Genesis Energy's presence in the solar market, including Southeast Asia.
The insolvency of Solarworld's German subsidiaries led to the liquidation of Germany's largest photovoltaic manufacturer. In 2021, Meyer Burger (Germany) GmbH purchased the site and trademark rights of Solarworld's module production. However, Meyer Burger's German subsidiaries are now facing insolvency themselves, producing heterojunction solar modules and cells in Freiberg and Bitterfeld-Wolfen.
Insolvency administrators are working to find an investor solution, but time is running out. The sale of the Solarworld trademark rights brought in a substantial amount for Meyer Burger's insolvency estate. Frank Asbeck, Solarworld's founder, secured the trademark rights through a bidding process.
The Solarworld brand, once Germany's largest photovoltaic manufacturer, has been acquired by Genesis Energy. The brand's future in the solar market, including Southeast Asia, is now in Genesis Energy's hands. Meanwhile, insolvency administrators continue to seek a solution for Meyer Burger's German subsidiaries.
