Significant wage increases for full-time employees expected in 2024, as reported by BA-Press Information Service in their 32nd issue.

The Federal Employment Agency's (BA) latest update of its wage atlas provides a comprehensive insight into the median wages of various professions across Germany in 2024.

In general, the median monthly gross wage for all full-time employees subject to social security contributions was €4,013, marking a significant increase of about 5.7% compared to the previous year.

The IT sector, in particular, stands out with its competitive salaries. For instance, IT Application Development professionals earned a median salary of €4,449, while IT Systems Electronics Technicians took home €4,350. Web Developers and IT Administrators earned slightly more, with median salaries of €4,826 and €5,331 respectively. ERP Consultants, Software Developers, IT Security Coordinators, Backend Developers all had median salaries above €5,712 and €6,528 respectively.

Academics, meanwhile, enjoyed a median annual income of approximately €60,500.

The median wage varied significantly across different regions. Saxony-Anhalt had the lowest median wage of €3,353, while Hesse had the third highest at €4,325. Full-time employees in Hamburg had the highest median wages at €4,527. Baden-Württemberg followed closely with the second highest median wages at €4,356. Thuringia had a median wage of €3,307.

The median wage was lowest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at €3,294. Interestingly, the gender pay gap narrowed in 2024, with men's median wage being €4,138 compared to women's €3,793.

The data, based on employers' social security contributions, only considers full-time employees and does not extend beyond the contribution assessment ceiling for pension insurance, which was €7,550 in West Germany and €7,450 in East Germany last year.

The BA collects wages as of the reference date, and the figures highlight the variation in salaries across different professions and regions in Germany. Employees aged 25 to under 55 had a median wage of €4,079, while those 55 and older earned slightly less at €4,165. Employees under 25 years old had the lowest median wage of €3,061.

The BA's statistics also show that the median wage for all socially insured full-time employees in 2024 was €4,013 per month, an increase of €218 or 5.7% compared to 2023. The gender pay gap in 2024 was €346, a decrease of €21 compared to the previous year.
