Pentecost Saturday Traffic in NRW: A Calm Start, But Watch Out Later!
Traffic Remains Peaceful on Pentecost Saturday in NRW - Saturday traffic flow remains peaceful in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)
Put aside any worries about gridlock on Germany's motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) on Pentecost Saturday, at least for now. As per a representative from ADAC, the roads here have remained surprisingly clear so far - no massive traffic bottlenecks to stress you out!
By midday, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) reported around 70 kilometers of bumper-to-bumper traffic around NRW. On the very first day of the Pentecost weekend, the congestion was significantly heavier: WDR's traffic studio showed the peak traffic jam occurring at approximately 16:00 on Friday, amounting to a mind-boggling 420 kilometers!
Last Friday, trouble spots included the Cologne Ring, the A1 towards Dortmund, A3 heading north, as well as the A57 and A61. And it wasn't only the NRW roads that faced congestion - border crossings into the Netherlands, for instance, on the A3 to Arnhem and A61 to Venlo, were also impacted.
ADAC had issued a warning early on, predicting traffic jams almost in every direction. They anticipated significant disruptions on major roads across southern Germany, not just NRW, but also Lower Saxony, and Brandenburg.
