"Salomon declares a shift towards a greener future" - Salomon aims to decrease carbon footprint by producing eco-friendly gear, despite escalating emissions.

Lacing Up for a Greener Tomorrow: Salomon's Steps Towards Sustainability

Aspiring to reduce its environmental impact, Salomon, the renowned brand known for its running, hiking, and skiing gear, is on a mission to let you conquer the trails responsibly.

Consider their radical new skiing and snowboarding helmet, the Salomon Brigade Index, crafted from polyolefin material that ensures it can be recycled after use. Or their groundbreaking fiber-to-fiber t-shirts, made from recycled textile waste, that are 100% recyclable.

Their latest S/LAB Phantasm 2 running shoes, manufactured locally in Ardèche, France, are another testament to their green ambitions. These innovative sneakers combine cutting-edge carbon fiber production with locally sourced materials.

Salomon aims to slash its absolute carbon emissions by a whopping 30% by 2030 compared to its 2019 output. This ambitious target encompasses emissions generated not only by the brand itself but also by external suppliers and logistics.

However, the brand's 2024 Impact Report sheds light on a challenge they've faced - a staggering almost 90,000 tons increase in emissions over the past five years, translating to a 39% rise. In 2024, their operations spewed out 315,768 tons of carbon emissions, contrasting sharply with 226,227 tons in 2019 and 212,698 tons in 2021.

The surge, according to the report, is primarily due to an increase in production. Yet, it should be noted that direct emissions from the brand have decreased by 18% since 2018.

Despite the gap, Salomon is unwavering in its mission for a sustainable future. "We're embarking on a journey of transformation," declares global sustainability and impact director, Marie-Laure Piednoir. "It's a journey of time, but we are fully committed to shaping a better future for our business, our industry, and our communities."

To minimize its impact, Salomon is actively working on increasing the amount of raw, non-harmful materials in its products, promoting local production to reduce emissions associated with long-distance travel, and implementing sustainable practices at its HQ to rein in emissions in the design and production stages.
