Russia Boosts Child Benefits: Indexing & Increases Planned
Starting January 1, 2023, the single child benefit in Russia will be indexed to the growth rate of the minimum subsistence level. On average, this amounts to 18,300 rubles per child at 100% of the minimum subsistence level. Pregnant women registering early will also receive benefits, ranging from 50% to 100% of the regional minimum subsistence level for able-bodied individuals.
In 2024, starting February 1, the benefit is set to increase by 6.8%. This increase applies to the single benefit for the birth of a child, the benefit for caring for children with disabilities, and the benefit for caring for a child under 1.5 years for uninsured citizens. The size of these benefits will be 50%, 75%, or 100% of the regional minimum subsistence level for children. However, the specific regions where these benefits will represent different percentages of the regional minimum living standard for children in 2023 are not yet specified.
These changes aim to provide better financial support to families with children. The indexing and planned increase in benefits should help families keep up with the cost of living and provide adequate care for their children.
