Romania's wage distribution demonstrates Bucharest and western regions leading the pack, with southern areas trailing behind.

In the first half of 2025, average salaries in Romanian counties varied significantly, with Bucharest and several western and central counties leading the pack.

In counties such as Iași, Brașov, and Constanța, the average monthly salary was RON 4,700 (EUR 940). Argeș, Prahova, and Dolj followed closely behind with an average of RON 4,500 (EUR 900). Other counties with at least RON 4,000 (EUR 800) average salaries include Bihor, Arad, Galați, Alba, Olt, and Tulcea.

On the lower end of the spectrum, Mehedinți, Giurgiu, and Teleorman had an average monthly salary of RON 3,800 (EUR 760), while Caraș-Severin and Maramureș recorded an average of RON 3,900 (EUR 780).

Regionally, Bucharest and western counties showed a higher demand for specialists and higher-educated positions, leading to higher average salaries. Conversely, counties with economies focused on entry-level or less specialized jobs tended to have lower average pay.

Looking at the overall national level for context, Romania’s average net wage increased to about RON 5,457 (EUR 1,097) in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 9.8% year-on-year rise. This places county salaries in perspective relative to the national average.

In summary, salary disparities in Romania during early 2025 reflect regional economic development differences, with Bucharest and several western and central counties showing stronger wage levels compared to southern and some peripheral counties.
