Romanian President Nicusor Dan targets Austrian corporate sphere during Salzburg Industrialists' Conference
Romania's President Nicusor Dan recently attended the Salzburg Industrialists' Summit in Austria, where he made a compelling investment pitch to the Austrian business community. The President emphasised strategic opportunities in various sectors, including defense, energy, infrastructure, and logistics.
President Dan highlighted Romania's expanding defense industry as a significant opportunity for companies recognising the strategic importance of this moment. He also proposed a two-way economic partnership, encouraging both Austrian investment in Romania and Romanian investments in Austria.
In addition, President Dan underscored Romania's ongoing efforts to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He anticipates this process to complete by the end of 2026. The President stressed the importance of Romania's geographical and logistical position, especially in relation to reconstruction efforts in Ukraine. He highlighted the port of Constanța and the Danube River as major logistical assets.
President Dan announced the imminent completion of a highway linking Constanța to the Hungarian border within three years. Contracts have already been signed for the last 100 kilometers in mountainous areas. This significant infrastructure project was also mentioned by the President.
The President also called for Austria's support in connecting East-West energy systems and advocated for stronger economic partnerships to build a safer and more prosperous Europe. He also mentioned urgent governmental measures to address immediate challenges, with a medium and long-term goal for Romania to return to a predictable fiscal and legislative system.
President Nicusor Dan has been in office for approximately three months, and this official visit to Austria marks a significant step in strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.
