Road to Imitation: Remodeling Marx Street in Krasnoyarsk to Resemble Prospect Mir
Catchy Remodel:Karl Marx Street, one of the major arteries in Krasnoyarsk's center, is about to receive a modern, massive overhaul to celebrate its 400th anniversary. By the end of this transformation, it'll rival Prospect Mira in style and class, at least that's what the project documents seem to suggest.
The tender for project design and research work on the Marx Street renovation was announced on June 24th. The city's municipal unit, UDIB, will be the project's contractor, and going by the purchase price, the contractor needs to deliver top-notch work.
The estimated initial cost for the design alone is nearly 27 million rubles, slated for the city budget in 2025.
As of now, Marx Street is in a state of disrepair, with four construction sites for the upcoming metro lines, two for future stations and two for subterranean structures. After the metro construction is complete, a significant overhaul would be necessary. Plus, the last major makeover of the street, completed in the 2010s, wasn't up to par, according to DELA.
The upcoming renovation will follow the production of "optimal, justified, cost-effective, and efficient functional-technological, constructional, and engineering-technical solutions," as stated in the documents. The design team will be tasked with creating a look for the street from the Railway Station to Belinskii – a stretch of about 3.8 kilometers.
A road project will be developed with the installation of missing signs and barriers, the replacement of traffic lights and bus shelters, the creation of pedestrian walkways, and possibly bike lanes (dependent on necessity). A parking area for scooters, small architectural structures, and points for connecting illuminated art installations should also be considered.
During the renovation, a traffic movement plan must be devised; closure of the street is not part of the plan.
Engineering solutions for the renovation should be proposed based on surveys and photographs. The final project will need approval from all relevant organizations and utilities.
The project's requirements are numerous, including the development of an individual garden design scheme, specific lighting solutions, the installation of surveillance cameras, underground power cables, the use of granite for curb stones, the creation of comfortable pedestrian zones, and more.
The renovation of Marx Street must be completed by November 30th. The renovation itself, however, might happen closer to the anniversary date, likely after the metro workers have cleared out. With the revamped cross streets and the improved Prospect Mira, the center of Krasnoyarsk will become even more appealing – a transformation that, unfortunately, still doesn't extend to many distant areas.
