Road Blockade on A59 from Monheim to Richrath heading towards Düsseldorf; restriction in place until July 5th

The Autobahn GmbH Rhineland has announced immediate measures to address the poor condition of the A59 between Monheim and Richrath junctions. Over 60 damaged concrete slabs will be replaced, but the comprehensive refurbishment of the A59, scheduled for autumn 2025, will not be affected.

During these works, the A59 will only have one open lane between the Richrath junction and the Wolfshagen rest area. This lane closure will also be in effect during the works, which are expected to last until approximately July 5, ending around 8 PM.

To bypass the closure, a local detour via Knipprather, Düsseldorf, and Berghausener streets is available between the Monheim and Richrath junctions. For those travelling towards Düsseldorf, a detour via the Monheim-Süd motorway interchange, A542, A3 to the Hilden motorway interchange, and further on A46 to the Düsseldorf-Süd motorway junction is signposted with a red dot.

The replacement of the concrete slabs is aimed at ensuring ongoing traffic safety, and the closure of the A59 is due to its poor condition. The immediate measure cannot be delayed due to the importance of traffic safety.

The works on the A59 will affect the route between Monheim and Düsseldorf, and the A59 route between Richrath and the Wolfshagen rest area will also be impacted. The concrete slab replacement is being coordinated with municipalities, traffic authorities, and traffic centres to minimise disruptions for road users.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information about the extended road closure plan for the A59 between Monheim and Richrath, including detour options and estimated duration, it is recommended to check the official website of the local or regional traffic authority (such as the Autobahn GmbH in Germany), local news websites or traffic update services, or navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze, which often provide live closure and detour information.

  1. The immediate measure to replace damaged concrete slabs on the A59, initiated by Autobahn GmbH Rhineland, is a part of ongoing efforts to maintain safety in the automotive industry, particularly transportation, as it aims to ensure traffic safety on the affected stretch of the A59.
  2. Given the poor condition of the A59 between Monheim and Richrath junctions, and the upcoming works to replace several slabs, interested parties in the finance sector, such as banks and insurance companies, may experience disruptions in their transportation logistics and potentially increased costs, as alternate routes might be lengthier or less efficient.
