Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis Approves Altenberger-Dom-Straße Redesign
The Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis local authority has ruled that the city's planned redesign of the Altenberger-Dom-Straße is legal. Despite no formal plan approval procedure, the city has provided opportunities for citizen participation.
The local authority concluded that the planned measures do not constitute a 'significant redesign'. Instead, they aim to adapt to modern standards and safety requirements. The redesign does not expand motor vehicle traffic lanes. Instead, road widths are reduced to accommodate bike and pedestrian traffic.
The complaint against the planned redesign was filed by Friedhelm Schlaghecken on behalf of IG Schildgen, a group of local businesspeople. They criticized the process for not conducting a proper official planning approval procedure before the extensive reconstruction between Kempener Straße and Leverkusener Straße.
The local authority has confirmed the legality of the city's planned redesign of the Altenberger-Dom-Straße. The redesign, which adapts to modern standards and safety requirements without expanding motor vehicle traffic lanes, will proceed as planned.
