Revised Traffic Control on Luxembourg's Thoroughfare
The city of Hürth and Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW (Straßen.NRW) have collaborated to develop a new traffic management system aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing traffic safety. This system will be implemented at the intersection of Luxemburger Straße / Kaulardstraße in Efferen, Hürth district, due to repeated complaints about traffic jams, particularly caused by right-turning vehicles onto Kaulardstraße when the railroad crossing barriers are closed.
Mayor Dirk Breuer has explained that the new traffic management is being implemented, and the final marking and traffic sign plan for the system have already been approved. The work on the new traffic management system is scheduled for the weekend of July 12 and 13, 2025.
The new traffic management system has been approved by the police, and the marking work will take place in flowing traffic without closures to minimise the impact on ongoing traffic. There will only be occasional, short-term restrictions due to cones and temporary 30 km/h speed limits.
Siemens has developed the traffic management solution for the intersection, which involves adjusting the markings and traffic management in the entrance area. If the work needs to be postponed due to weather conditions, the alternative dates are August 9 and 10.
The aim of the new traffic management is to address the issue of traffic jams and improve traffic flow, as well as to enhance traffic safety. No specific changes to the traffic management system have been provided in this paragraph.
No timeline for the implementation of the new traffic management system is given, but the police have stated that they have approved the new regulations. The Mayor has also emphasised that the new traffic management is being implemented.
The work on the new traffic management system will take place without major disruptions to traffic, ensuring that the impact on commuters is minimal. The city of Hürth and Straßen.NRW have developed a solution for the traffic issue, and the implementation of the new system is a significant step towards improving traffic flow and safety in the district.
