Charming Charlie Returns with Expansion Plans

After a period of restructuring following its 2019 bankruptcy, Charming Charlie is making a comeback with plans to expand its store footprint across the United States. The retailer, known for its color-grouping visual merchandising model, is set to open 14 new stores in the coming months, with the first one opening this Friday in Houston, Texas.

The expansion strategy, focused on a carefully managed resurgence, emphasizes selective reopening of stores and strengthening the brand presence. Charming Charlie has been investing in an omnichannel retail experience, capturing online shoppers and driving in-store traffic. The company has also been revamping store layouts and product lines to align better with current fashion and accessory trends.

According to Charming Charlie President Steve Lovell, the retailer is "reopening in the communities who love the brand most." The new stores will be located in Texas (Houston, Frisco, Arlington), California (Thousand Oaks, Pembroke Pines, Fresno, Ventura, Modesto, San Diego), Iowa (Des Moines), Arizona (Tucson), Illinois (Chicago), Colorado (Broomfield), and New Jersey (Deptford).

Charming Charlie first reopened its doors last September in Atlanta, marking its first store since the company's 2019 bankruptcy. The retailer's store footprint was reduced following the bankruptcy, but the company is now looking to expand nationwide, with additional stores planned for the summer and fall of 2021.

Despite the challenges faced by businesses in the last year, Charming Charlie is "incredibly pleased to be bringing Charming Charlie back to its origin city of Houston." The stores opening in Houston in March and April are located at First Colony, Willowbrook Mall, Stonebriar Centre, and The Parks Mall at Arlington.

The intellectual property of Charming Charlie was sold for around $1.1 million in September 2019, but the company has since been working to regain its footing in the retail market. The expansion plans are part of this effort, as Charming Charlie looks to reestablish itself as a popular destination for fashion-conscious shoppers.
