Dates Changed: Rügen Bridge Full Closure Delayed Till Next Week
Here's a lowdown on what's going down with the ol' Rügen Bridge in Stralsund, Germany.
Wanna know the deets? Keep readin'.
Initially, planners were eyeing a full closure of the Rügen Bridge starting on May 7th. But guess what? They got things done faster than expected! So, the new target for a complete shutdown is now May 13th. This initial closure will last until June 5th for those much-needed renovations we've all been talkin' about.
The good news is, you don't need to worry about gettin' your surfacing and asphalt work done all at once. It's a two-step process, and the earlier phase can be completed with only a partial closure. A spokesperson from the State Office for Road Construction and Transport teased us with the revelation that they've already wrapped up ahead of schedule.
But, brace yourself, folks! The full closure is unavoidable for the final stage of the renovations. Here's a snapshot of the schedule:
- May 13th: Maintenance work commences (Full Closure)
- June 5th: Partial reopening for Pentecost (June 6th-10th)
- June 10th: Closure resumes until June 18th
- June 18th: Partial reopening again, work to be finished by June 25th
Don't fret too much, though. They'll be reopenin' one lane on the Rügen Bridge just in time for Pentecost (June 6th-10th).
Now, you might be wonderin' why all this fuss about a bridge that's been around for about 18 years. Well, in the words of the State Office, it's high time for a tech refresh. Besides this Rügen Bridge business, keep an eye out for potential traffic jams on Rügen Island. There's gonna be some work goin' down on federal road 96 between Kubbelkow and Bergen-Mitte throughout May, and the route will be closed until May 28th.
