Renewable energy projects in Dabdaba and Shagaya, Phase III, receive approval for tendering by the relevant authority.
TheAuthority overseeing public-private partnership projects has given the green light for the tendering process of two significant renewable energy initiatives: the Dabdaba Power Generation Project and the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project - Phase III. These projects, as reported by Al-Rai daily, have now been opened up to qualified companies for implementation.
The Dabdaba Power Generation Project, a 1,100-megawatt renewable energy initiative spanning 18.1 square kilometers, leverages photovoltaic (PV) technology to generate electricity. The contract with the successful investor will last 30 years.
As for the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project - Phase III, this project may incorporate wind or solar energy, as it often extends earlier renewable phases. There's ongoing collaboration among the PPP Authority, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research to prepare project documents, prequalify companies, and establish procedures for tendering and awarding the project.
During the same meeting, they also decided to schedule the tendering of the first phase of the Khairan Power and Water Desalination Plant. This project aims to produce 1,800 megawatts of electricity and 33 million gallons of water daily. It's scheduled to be offered to qualified companies by June.
In light of these decisions, the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, has reaffirmed his commitment to expediting the awarding of these strategic projects and securing regulatory approvals. The goal is to initiate implementation as soon as possible to bolster Kuwait's electricity grid and water reserves.
While specific details about these projects are not readily available, based on industry standards, solar or hybrid (solar + storage) technology is likely for Dabdaba, with solar or wind potential for Shagaya Phase III. Qualified investors should have proven experience in utility-scale renewable energy development, adhere to local content/partnership requirements, and possess sufficient financial capacity.
