Remaining Closure Duration for Cable Bus Lines Maintenance?

The annual review of Cablebús Lines 1 and 2 in Mexico City commenced on Monday, July 14, 2025. This inspection, carried out by the Servicio de Transportes Eléctricos (STE), involves temporary closures of the lines to perform maintenance and safety checks. The Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) is providing free replacement bus service to minimize disruption for commuters during this period.

The reviews are a routine part of the system’s upkeep, aimed at sustaining operational safety and efficiency amid rising ridership and ongoing expansion projects. Four motor and return pulley bearings will be replaced on Line 2, and major maintenance of nine balancines will be applied on the same line. Preventive maintenance activities are being carried out on the electromechanical systems, cabins, towers, electrical rooms, toll system, and CCTV monitoring on Line 1.

Inspections by specialists of the electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems of the cable car, and the rehabilitation of 22 balancines in towers of the Trunk Line and Antena Tlalpexco are part of the review on Line 1. Non-destructive testing of station elements will also be conducted on Line 2.

Boardings and alightings are allowed at all stations in both sections during the reviews. Service during the reviews is provided with units of the Passenger Transport Network (RTP) in two sections: from Indios Verdes to Cuautepec, and from Indios Verdes to Tlalpexco.

The manufacturers Doppelmayr and Leitner are providing advice during these reviews. RTP support services are available for Line 2 for the sections: Loop B Xalpa - Santa Marta and Loop A Constitution of 1917 - Xalpa. On Line 2, preventive maintenance activities are being carried out on the tension, brake, synchronization, station deflection systems, and rescue drive units. Maintenance of substations will also be performed on Line 2.

The annual review will conclude on August 10, ensuring reliable and secure operation of the cable car system in the boroughs served (Gustavo A. Madero, Iztapalapa, and Álvaro Obregón). Meanwhile, the government is advancing plans for a new Cablebús Line 4, reflecting ongoing investment in urban cable transport in Mexico City, but that line is separate from the current review status of Lines 1 and 2.

The annual review of Cablebús Lines 1 and 2 involves maintenance in the finance sector, as the government invests in the industry to ensure the reliability and security of public-transit transportation in Mexico City. Thetextit{ annual review } also includes inspections of electromechanical systems, cabins, towers, toll systems, and CCTV monitoring on Line 1, and non-destructive testing on station elements for Line 2.
