Relocating, not departing: BlackBuck clarifies its shift from Bengaluru

BlackBuck, a digital trucking platform that began operations in Bengaluru in 2015, has announced plans to relocate within the city in 2024. The move comes amid growing concerns about the city's infrastructure, particularly its traffic and road conditions.

Originally operating from a small office near the Sony Signal at Koramangala, BlackBuck moved to the Bellandur - Outer Ring Road (ORR) in 2016 for larger office spaces and better facilities. However, the CEO of BlackBuck, Rajesh Yabaji, has expressed frustration over the worsening infrastructure on the ORR, citing long commute times for employees and poor road conditions as reasons for the move.

Yabaji's comments have sparked concerns about Bengaluru's infrastructure, with some pessimistically viewing the city's current state as a risk to its "Silicon City" status. Infosys veteran Mohandas Pai voiced his concerns, citing chaotic traffic and failing infrastructure as issues that need immediate attention.

Despite these concerns, BlackBuck has denied claims that it is considering moving its operations outside of Bengaluru. The company intends to expand its footprint in the city, reaffirming its commitment to the tech hub.

However, Andhra Pradesh's IT Minister, Nara Lokesh, has invited BlackBuck to consider relocating its operations to Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam, known for its infrastructure development efforts, has been rated as the safest city for women in India and among the top 5 cleanest cities in the country.

Lokesh reached out to Yabaji via direct message, suggesting the potential benefits of relocating to Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam's ongoing infrastructure development and cleanliness could potentially offer a more conducive environment for BlackBuck's operations.

Despite the invitation, BlackBuck has stated that a significant portion of its operations will continue to happen on the ORR. The company will relocate within Bengaluru to a different location for easier employee commute.

The decision to relocate within Bengaluru has been welcomed by many, as it addresses the concerns about employee commute times and road conditions. BlackBuck's commitment to Bengaluru, despite the infrastructure challenges, reaffirms the city's status as a key player in India's tech industry.
