Regensburg's District Administration Opens 156 kWp Photovoltaic Carport
Regensburg's district administration has inaugurated a new photovoltaic carport system, the second major renewable energy project managed by the Communal Energy Regensburger Land (KERL) eG cooperative in 2025. The opening was attended by local officials and KERL representatives.
The system, with a capacity of 156 kWp, is designed to meet the actual electricity needs of the district administration, supplying its building with environmentally friendly and cost-effective power. It avoids overproduction and allows electricity to be used directly on site, relieving networks and saving costs for network expansion.
KERL, a cooperative founded by all municipalities of the district and the city of Regensburg, aims to strengthen regional value creation and improve the supply of the economy with sustainable energy. The cooperative values the use of already sealed surfaces, such as parking lots, for renewable energy projects. The new carport system is a testament to this approach.
The new photovoltaic carport system in Regensburg is a significant step towards the region's energy transition. It follows the successful implementation of a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Realschule Regenstauf earlier in 2025, both projects managed by KERL. The system's capacity and on-site usage demonstrate KERL's commitment to sustainable and efficient energy news for the region.
