Manchester United Secures Record-Breaking Transfer of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig

Manchester United has broken the transfer record for RB Leipzig with the acquisition of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko. The deal, worth approximately €85 million (around $98.8 million or £74 million including add-ons), makes Sesko the most expensive player ever sold by the German club.

The transfer process was not without competition, as Newcastle United also showed interest in the promising young talent. However, Sesko's preference to join Manchester United led to this agreement, which is part of the club's major summer spending that has exceeded £200 million with other signings like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The transfer fee includes an initial €76.5 million (£66.3 million), with around €8.5 million (£7.4 million) in performance-related add-ons. The deal also reportedly includes a sell-on clause for RB Leipzig and a future friendly match arrangement between the two clubs. In addition, Manchester United will pay Leipzig 8.5 million euros in bonuses for Sesko.

Economic factors played a significant role in the transfer, according to Leipzig's sports director, Marcel Schaefer. The bidding war between Manchester United and Newcastle United drove up the purchase price for Sesko, and RB Leipzig was determined not to let Sesko go for less than 80 million euros.

Sesko, who joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2023, was successful 6 times in the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal for the German club. He scored 27 goals and assisted 7 more in the Bundesliga. Sesko is often compared to striker sensation Erling Haaland, and this transfer is seen as a strategic move by Manchester United to bolster their attack.

With this transfer, Manchester United is ready to take on the international stage next season, including in the Champions League. The transfer of Sesko from Leipzig to Manchester United was announced by both clubs, and fans are eager to see the young striker's impact on the team.
