Recognizing Achievements: Five Preeminent Companies Honored with 'e-Return Champion Certificate' by NBR
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) recognised five prominent companies for their significant contributions to the government's automation agenda and support for progressive national initiatives. The awards were presented at a ceremony held at Le Méridien on September 19.
The recipients of the awards were BAT Bangladesh, Sonali Bank, Brac Bank, Renata Pharmaceuticals, and Bureau Bangladesh. They were honoured with the "e-Return Champion Certificate" under the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW) Project.
Launched in 2015, the BSW project is a remarkable initiative that aims to facilitate faster and more transparent international trade procedures. The project provides an electronic, online solution that has resulted in reduced time and costs in import and export operations.
The BSW Project combines 19 government departments under one digital portal, namely the BSW software and the Advanced Risk Management System (ARMS). This integration streamlines processes, decreases paperwork, minimises processing time, and adds transparency.
One of the key benefits of the BSW project is the reduction of the scope for harassment, corruption, and unethical transactions. BAT Bangladesh, for instance, has implemented a paperless operation for government procedures, eliminating the need for personal or direct contact in these procedures.
The BSW system, which has issued half a million Certificates, Licenses, and Permits (CLPs), is a sustainable initiative that ensures proper governance and eliminates paper-based procedures. From February 1, 2023, manually issued CLPs from seven state agencies are no longer accepted for duty assessment and customs clearance and must be submitted through the BSW system.
The BSW project is a part of the government's overall digitization agenda and automation agenda. It has been instrumental in supporting progressive national initiatives, such as reducing the time and costs associated with import and export operations, ensuring transparency and accountability, and promoting a more efficient and corruption-free trade environment.
The BSW Project was held at Le Méridien, and the awards were given to the country's largest taxpayers for their contribution to implementing the government's automation agenda and supporting these progressive national initiatives. The BSW project is indeed a remarkable initiative that is making a significant impact on the trade landscape in Bangladesh.
