Ram Enthusiasts Realize Their Dream in 2027 as Midsize Truck Makes a Comeback
Stellantis, the automotive giant, has announced plans to launch a new midsize pickup truck in 2027. The company's CEO, Antonio Filosa, revealed this news at the Kepler Cheuvreux Autumn Conference in Paris. The upcoming truck, known as the Ram 1200, is expected to fill a gap in Stellantis' range that has been absent since the 1500 Classic went off sale last year. According to Mopar Insiders, Filosa described the new Ram 1200 as 'beautiful'. The Ram 1200 will be a body-on-frame truck, not a unibody machine, and it will only be available in crew-cab configuration. It will likely use some version of the Jeep Wrangler platform, but it will not use the STLA Large platform, unlike the current Charger and Charger Daytona. Entry-level models will likely feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Wrangler. However, the truck is not expected to feature a V8 engine. Instead, it may use the Hurricane inline sixes, capable of up to 540 hp (548 PS). The Hemi V8 engine has returned to Ram's powertrain lineup, a move that Stellantis believes will help boost the full-size 1500's sales, but it seems that the Ram 1200 will not benefit from this. The new Ram 1200 is expected to give value-conscious Ram buyers an affordable truck option. It will be a rival to the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma. The design of the new truck was seen two weeks ago in Detroit's design center, but the specifics are still under wraps. Interestingly, the Ram 1200 is unrelated to the new Dakota truck currently on sale in South America. This will be the first Stellantis midsize truck in the USA since the Dodge Dakota was dropped in 2011. The truck is expected to launch in 2027, making it a model year 2028 (MY28) vehicle. The Ram 1200's arrival is a significant move for Stellantis, as it aims to capitalize on the growing demand for midsize pickup trucks in the US market. With its striking design, robust construction, and affordable price point, the Ram 1200 is shaping up to be a strong contender in the midsize pickup truck segment.
