Prolonged Agreement Finalized at Don Mueang Airport for Mall Group

Rewrapped Post

Looks like The Mall Group's got another six months at Don Mueang Airport's Terminal 2, thanks to Airports of Thailand (AoT)! The board's approved extension takes effect from May 1 and runs through October 31. But don't fret, they're already on the hunt for a new operator, aiming to make the switch within the next six months.

The Mall Group currently manages two commercial zones on the third floor of the domestic terminal, earning their keep by peddling souvenirs, personal care, medicines, lifestyle goodies, jewelry, accessories, and books in one area, covering 952.33 square meters. Interestingly, they have to fork over 20% of their monthly gross revenue before expenses (a minimum guaranteed return of around 6.971 million baht per month, whichever is higher).

The second concession, covering a whopping 1,436.41 square meters, is for retail and food & beverage services. Similar to the first concession, they pay a fee equivalent to 15% of monthly gross revenue before expenses, or a minimum guaranteed return of roughly 17.377 million baht per month (again, whichever is higher).

Paweena Chariyathitiphong, AoT's senior executive vice president, is handling the Engineering and Construction Group and serving as the acting AoT president. He confirms they're in the process of drafting Terms of Reference for the upcoming bidding process. He acknowledges it could take some time, but he promises it'll ensure that the service keeps raking in the bucks for AoT.

As for who'll be replacing The Mall Group, as of now, AoT isn't sharing any deets on the potential operator[1]. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!

In the upcoming bid, The Mall Group's place in managing the commercial zones at Don Mueang Airport's Terminal 2 may be taken over by a new operator, given that the financial arrangements involve a percentage of monthly gross revenue before expenses for both business and finance sectors. The new operator, once chosen, is expected to continue generating significant revenue for Airports of Thailand (AoT).
